About Harbor House
Staff, Board and an organization with a heart…
Message from Executive Director
In response to a dire need for affordable and accessible community-based residential substance abuse treatment, forward-thinking business and community leaders from the City of Jackson and surrounding areas established in 1973 the Harbor Houses of Jackson, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. We are licensed by the State Department of Mental Health to operate multiple facilities with a total of 89 beds. Since 2011, The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has awarded us an accreditation based upon our commitment to international standards of quality. We strive for continuous quality improvement to ensure optimal outcomes for our clients.
Our treatment philosophy focuses on rehabilitating the mind, body and spirit. We believe that addiction is a treatable illness, and that it can be overcome by following our evidence-based recovery program. We know that addiction affects a person biologically, psychologically, spiritually, emotionally and socially. We also know that addiction creates special problems for families and communities which must be taken into account during the treatment planning process. The specific needs of each individual are reflected in the personalized treatment plans developed for each client.
We follow specific practices in our Program based on their previously observed effects and successful outcomes. We incorporate medically supported treatment and proven practices for therapy, which teach clients what addiction management looks like, and prepares the person by supplying tools and support structure that can be assessed after treatment is completed in order to sustain abstinence and maintain long-term recovery.
We believe that residents of our community have a right to have access to high quality treatment services, and since 1973, we have provided compassionate care to over sixteen thousand clients. In 2017, expanding our commitment to create a supportive and nurturing environment for individuals to begin the healing process from active addiction to recovery, we began an expansion plan to include a Pregnant and Parenting Women’s Program.
Individuals admitted to Harbor House assume a great deal of responsibility for their care, treatment and personal growth. They are treated with respect and dignity and are provided with all available information so that they can make informed decisions about their care while they are in residence, and then after through participation in our Recovery Support Services and Alumni groups. We practice a respectful acknowledgement of each client’s individual spiritual and religious beliefs, and believe that what is important for each individual is the personal journey, the searching associated with finding a spiritual path, which will support a solid recovery program.
We are where we are today because of years of widespread community support, the dedication and commitment of the Board of Directors and the passion of our staff to offer high quality evidence-based addiction treatment services.
With Warmest Regards,
M. Trost Friedler
