What to Bring

What fees and documentation should I bring when I'm admitted?

  • Admission Fee. The payment for the Primary Care Residential Program is listed below. Clients are expected to pay on the date of admission the admission fee in full in cash, money order or a bank check. Personal checks will not be accepted. The $420 admission fee for residents of Hinds County with annual gross income of less than $50,000 is not refundable if the client chooses to leave treatment or is asked to leave by the Treatment Team; the nonrefundable fee for all other clients is $520. The nonrefundable amount will increase each day to account for the daily cost of food.
  • Identification. Please bring a picture identification card that has your social security number on it OR a picture identification card and your social security card.
  • Proof of Residency. Please bring documentation to prove your legal residency status. Acceptable documentation includes utility bills, paycheck stubs, W-2s and income tax returns.
  • Spending Money. Clients are allowed to have $20 in spending money. All other funds must be deposited in Harbor House’s Business Office.

What toiletries and other personal belongings should I bring with me?

[Special Notes: (1) Aerosol products, products containing alcohol and all other products deemed inappropriate or unsafe by the Treatment Team will not be permitted on the premises. (2) The Treatment Team, at its own discretion, shall determine what is inappropriate attire. (3) Upon admission, Harbor House staff will examine all of your personal belongings before they are allowed on the unit. (4) At the time of admission, male clients should have a fresh haircut and be clean shaven. Mustaches are permitted; beards and chin whiskers are not permitted.]

  • Casual clothing such as jeans and regular shirts and comfortable shoes (appropriate-length shorts may be worn except at meals on Saturday only).
  • Skirts and dresses that are knee-length or longer.
  • Shorts are not permitted.
  • Form-fitting clothing, including Lycra tights or biking or running shorts, are not permitted. No low-cut tops, blouses with spaghetti straps or tank tops. Bare midriffs are unacceptable, as are t-string t-shirts, sleeveless t-shirts, stretch tank tops, mini skirts, tight pants and crop tops.
  • Jeans and clothing must not have suggestive tears or cutouts.
  • Undergarments are required for all patients (including bras for women).
  • Regular sports shirts and undershirts (undershirts and sleeveless shirts cannot be worn alone as shirts).
  • Clothing depicting sex, drugs, alcohol, violence, gambling, sports teams and all other articles of clothing with logos are NOT permitted.
  • Earings for women with pierced ears are permitted; men are not permitted to wear earings. Visible piercings on all other body parts are not permitted for both men and women.
  • Men are not permitted to have their hair braided.
  • Belts are required for baggy pants.
  • Pajamas, robe and slippers.
  • Shower Shoes.
  • Caps.
  • Towels (2) and washcloths (2).
  • Personal hygiene products (e.g., shaving cream, shampoo, soap, talcum powder, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes and aftershave/cologne (nonaerosol and nonalcoholic only)).
  • Feminine hygiene products.
  • Cigarettes.
  • Prescription medications (in the appropriately labeled prescription bottle).
  • Eyeglasses.
  • Laundry detergent.
  • Stationary supplies, writing paper, black ink pens, envelopes and stamps.
  • Electric and disposable razors/shavers are the only type allowed.
  • Reading materials are limited to recovery-related topics
  • Electrical items, such as hair dryers, curling irons and electric shavers, will be checked for safety.

Can I bring my car, truck or motorcycle?

Personal vehicles for individuals in the Primary Care Residential Treatment Program are not allowed on the premises. Clients that graduate to Secondary and Extended Residential Care Treatment Programs are permitted to have a vehicle as long as they have a valid driver's license, registration and inspection certificates and proof of insurance.

What should I leave at home?

  • Non-prescription medications, vitamins, herbs and nutritional supplements.
  • Excessive or expensive jewelry.
  • Radios, pagers, tape recorders, CD players, tapes, TV, cellular phones, laptops, electronic address books, audio/video equipment and cameras.
  • Exercise equipment, craft materials, musical instruments and irons.
  • Reading material (novels, magazines or publications) not related to recovery.
  • Cards, games and puzzles.
  • Pillows or blankets.
  • Stuffed animals.
  • Shoe polish, soap, detergent, or bleach.
  • Earings.
  • Glass items.
  • Sun glasses.
  • Straight razors, razorblades, pocketknives, knitting needles, crochet hooks and metal hairpieces.
  • Aerosol products, including deodorant and hairspray.
  • Nail polish remover with acetone.
  • Mouthwash with alcohol.
  • Suntan oils or baby oils (substitute with lotions).
  • Products containing alcohol (i.e., mouthwash, aftershave, facial toner, perfume, perfumed lotions, etc).
  • Food, chewing gum, breath mints, candy of any kind, sugar, or artificial sweeteners.
  • Smokeless tobacco, cigars, or pipes.
  • Illegal substances and mood-altering drugs.
  • Drug paraphernalia.
  • Flash lights.
  • Firearms and/or supplies.
